BULLES DE CULTURE – South Africa #01

Protester band during apartheid, Mahlathini and the Mahotella Queens is a legendary group of mbaqanga who has mixed traditional African music (Zulu, Sotho and Xhosa), marabi (kind of ragtime), rhythm & blues, soul and gospel.

If we have to discover one album of the band, it would be “Paris-Soweto” (1987) and his famous hit, “Kazet”, which have also been sung by French singer Lizzy Mercier Descloux under the title “Où sont les gazelles ?” (litteraly, “Where are the gazelles?”) en 1984.
