Succès commercial (2ème meilleure audience historique de la chaîne) et artistique (reconnaissance unanime de la critique), la nouvelle série de Canal +, "Pigalle, la nuit", navigue donc entre réalisme et fantastique.

Synopsis : Un frère à la recherche de sa sœur, danseuse mystérieusement disparue à Pigalle, alors que deux clans se livrent une guerre féroce pour le contrôle du business de la nuit. À Pigalle, la nuit, tout est possible.

Depuis quelques années et à l'image de certaines chaînes de télévision américaines (la chaîne NBC en tête), la chaîne privée française Canal + a fait le pari de produire et diffuser régulièrement des séries originales et de qualité. Et en faisant le choix de confier la création de celles-ci à des auteurs à l'univers très différents et très marqués, fort est de constater que la chaîne a su renouveler le paysage audiovisuel français jusque là peu créatif. Calquées sur le modèle américain tout en traitant de sujets français, traitant de sujets aussi divers que la mafia corse ("Mafiosa, le clan" de Hugues Pagan), la banlieue ("La Commune" d'Abdel Raouf Dafri) ou l'industrie du film pornographique ("Hard" de Cathy Verney), ces séries ont su innover sur la forme et le fond tout en rencontrant leur public (excepté l'échec surprenant de la très bonne série qu'était "La Commune").

À mi-parcours de la diffusion de "Pigalle, la nuit" où sexe, drogue et règlement de compte se succèdent pour notre plus grand plaisir, il est intéressant de constater que les deux principes de la chaînes (originalité et qualité) sont encore au rendez-vous. En effet, flirtant avec l'univers fantastique d'un "Twin Peaks" (David Lynch et Mark Frost) et le récit choral d'un "Sur écoute" (David Simon) et "The Shield" (Shawn Ryan), la série nous plonge dans un Pigalle réel (tournage dans le quartier de Pigalle à Paris pendant 14 semaines au milieu des passants, dans de vrais lieux comme le "Sexodrome" et le "Folie's") et mythique (flash-back onirique d'un Pigalle des années 50).

S'étant immerger dans le quartier pendant plusieurs mois avant leur travail d'écriture, les deux auteurs, Hervé Hadmar et Marc Herpoux, nous invitent donc à suivre les traces d'un Jalil Lespert épatant à rencontre d'une galerie de personnages étonnants (Simon Abkarian, Armelle Deutsch, Eric Ruf, Catherine Mouchet, Sara Martins, Archie Shepp, Hubert Koundé, Linh Dan Pham et Sacha Bourdo en tête).

Séduit par un générique à la musique électronique calme ("Seventeen" de Ladytron) et aux images sensuelles (le corps d'un homme et d'une femme s'enlaçant tout en étant eux-mêmes enlacés par des tatouages se formant peu à peu sur eux), nous attendrons donc avec impatience les quatre derniers épisodes de la série (diffusion le lundi soir) tout en regrettant la brièveté de celle-ci (huit épisodes contre douze épisodes pour une série équivalent aux Etats-Unis.

Commercial (2nd best historical audience of the channel) and artistic  success (unanimous recognition of the critical), the new serie of Canal +, "Pigalle, la nuit" (litteraly, "Pigalle, at night") navigates between reality and fantastic.

Synopsis: A brother in search of his sister, a dancer mysteriously disappeared at Pigalle, while two clans are fighting a brutal war for control of the business of the night. In Pigalle, at night, everything is possible.

In recent years, at the image of some U.S. television (NBC in the lead), the private French channel, Canal +, has taken up the challenge to produce and to broadcast regular series which are original and quality. And by choosing to entrust their creation to authors with very differents and very marked world, it is very obvious that the channel was able to renew the French audiovisual landscape hitherto little creative. Modeled on the U.S. model while dealing with French subjects, talking about subjects as diverse as the Mafia ( "Mafiosa, le clan" by Hugues Pagan), the suburbs ( "La Commune" by Abdel Raouf Dafri) or the pornographic film industry ( "Hard" by Cathy Verney), these series have been innovating on the form and the content while meeting the public (except the surprising failure of what was a very good serie, "La Commune").

Halfway of the broadcasting of "Pigalle, la nuit" where sex, drugs and settling scores succeed for our pleasure, it is interesting to note that the two principles of the channels (originality and quality) are still appointment. In fact, flirting with the fantasy world of "Twin Peaks" (David Lynch and Mark Frost) and the choral narrative of "The Wire" (David Simon) and" The Shield "(Shawn Ryan), the serie plunges us into a real (shooting in the district of Pigalle in Paris for 14 weeks, in the middle of passersby, in real locations like "Sexodrome" and "Folie's") and mythical Pigalle (flashback of a dream of the Pigalle of the 50's).

Having immersed in the district for several months before their writing, both authors, Hervé Hadmar and Marc Herpoux invite us therefore to follow the footsteps of an amazing Jalil Lespert and to meet an incredible cast of characters (Simon Abkarian, Armelle Deutsch, Eric Ruf, Catherine Mouchet, Sara Martins, Archie Shepp, Hubert Kounde, Linh Dan Pham and Sacha Bourdo).

Seduced by an opening credits with a calm electronic music ( "Seventeen" by Ladytron) and sensual images (the body of a man and a woman embracing while being themselves embraced by tattoos forming gradually on them), we are looking forward to the final four episodes of the serie (broadcast on Monday night) while regretting the brevity of it (eight episodes versus twelve episodes for a same serie in the United States).
